A century since its founding, Bentley – now under sole Volkswagen ownership following years of wrangling with BMW it celebrated its centenary in 2019. The company planned a range of special occasions and launches to mark the occasion before pandemic planning became a priority.

    Design

Bentley is known as a luxury car manufacturer that produces extravagant and luxurious vehicles. But even the keys make a statement. The Bentayga key is made from sterling silver. It has a large ‘B’ logo that lets everyone know you drive a Bentley. It’s also engraved with the years 1919 and 2019, to commemorate the company’s centenary.

They were inspired by the luxurious private aircraft. A custom heating, air conditioning, and ventilation system has been developed to ensure each passenger has the perfect climate control setting.

The Mulsanne is equipped with twin turbocharged 6.75 litre W12 engine with 560bhp, and 479lb-ft of torque. This power is paired by a new suspension system that offers Bentley’s signature smooth ride.

Bentley has introduced a special specification for cars built after the year 2019 in order to celebrate its centennial. It is known as the Centenary Specification. This includes cross-stitching and contrast stitching in Centenary Gold thread throughout the cabin. The 2005 bentley continental gt key Wings are embroidered with Centenary Gold on the headrests, seats and other areas of the car. This enhances the celebration. A custom Bentley key case is included in the Centenary Specification, making the Bentley experience all-inclusive.

    Personalisation

Bentley’s Mulliner division allows customers to design their own car. The customers sit at a set of images, referred to “mood stations” and select a series of images ranging from scenic landscapes to sporting events that inspire them. Every time a choice is made, the pattern that emerges shows the model of the Bentley, as well as the color and style preferences for the bespoke Bentley.

The resulting configuration is stored on individual R.F.I.D.-enabled keys that are then presented to guests in a custom key case. Keys are also equipped with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps that illuminate the door’s opening path with the owner’s name, or emblem as they make their way towards the vehicle.

Bentley estimates that it requires 500 man-hours to build and put together the Mulsanne. The unwillingness to embrace new technology is the key to this lengthy and laborious process. The Crewe factory workers do not use a machine to space perfectly matched cross stitched leather seats. Instead, they do it by hand. Instead of letting the car’s built-in sensors guide it to perpendicular and parallel parking spots the drivers must do it manually.

During the event, Bentley displayed its Mulliner personalization capabilities using an exclusive example of the Mulsanne W.O. Edition, which pays homage to founder William Osler bentley key fob. The 100 limited edition cars come with a key that displays an item from the 1930 8 Litre crankshaft.
